Influenced by his Swiss grandfather’s watchmaking innovations and his Angolan grandmother’s emphasis on social duty, Jean-Claude Bastos founded the African Innovation Foundation (AIF) in 2009. This initiative, stemming from twenty years in private equity and venture capital, targets crucial sectors: agriculture, biodiversity, digital technology, life sciences, and healthcare.
The foundation’s pinnacle achievement came through the Innovation Prize for Africa, launched in 2011 with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
